This workshop will focus on the prediction of chronological age using DNA methylation analysis. In a forensic context, this type of testing can be used to predict the age of an unknown individual from a body fluid stain, e.g. predict how old the person was who left a blood stain at a crime scene. The half-day workshop will consist of 4 sections: the theoretical basis of a DNA methylation-based age prediction approach; the different age prediction assays and models currently available for use with forensically relevant samples; implementation solutions regarding available genotyping strategies; and practical computer-based exercises to familiarise the participants with different age-based prediction models.
